Dr. Rahoul Ahuja is a general internal medicine physician at MUSC and the Charleston VA Medical Center. Born and raised in South Carolina, he received his undergraduate education at the University of South Carolina Honors College (focusing on economics and global health), followed by medical school at MUSC, and internal medicine residency training at Emory University.

He has previously worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) on issues ranging from tobacco control, heart disease prevention, and mobile health technologies. He has particular interests in the global burden of chronic disease, where he has published in journals such as Preventing Chronic Disease, as well as PLOS Medicine. During his medical training, he practiced and worked with clinicians on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Tuba City, Arizona, as well as Muhimbili National Hospital at the National Cardiac Institute in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and in rural Costa Rica and Argentina.

His clinical interests lie primarily in the prevention of chronic diseases through an integrated primary care approach, hypertension screening and treatment, diabetes screening, and telemedicine. He hopes to further explore how improved access to primary healthcare services can reduce rates of chronic diseases.
