Biography

Dr. James Battista, M.D. is an assistant professor of Neurology and specializes in the care of Parkinson’s disease and other Movement Disorders. He received his medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He then completed his Neurology residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Movement Disorders at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai in NYC. Before coming to MUSC, he spent over 3 years building a Movement Disorder program in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Battista is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a member of the International Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Society.

Dr. Battista treats adult patients with Parkinson’s disease, tremor, dystonia, dyskinesia, ataxia, tics, Huntington’s disease, chorea and other movement disorders. His goal is to treat the underlying condition and related symptoms to improve quality of life for the patient and their care team. Additionally, Dr. Battista performs botulinum toxin injections for facial spasm, dystonia and spasticity; utilizing EMG and E-stim guidance. He also provides pre-surgical evaluation and post-surgical programming of deep brain stimulators for Parkinson’s disease, tremor and dystonia.
