Biography

Chandrakanth Boddu, M.D. is an instructor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston and is practicing orthopaedic surgeon at MUSC facilities in Lancaster and Chester.

Dr. Boddu received his M.D. degree in 2001 from NTR University of Health Sciences, Andhra Pradesh, India. He completed orthopaedic surgery residency training in Kasturba Hospital in Manipal University in 2005. He practiced in India as an assistant professor in various teaching hospitals and practiced as a general orthopaedic surgeon with focus on joint reconstruction and sports medicine for eight years. Later he decided to emigrate to the USA in 2014 in pursuit of higher education and training.

During his 4-year training in the United States, he successfully completed the following fellowships:

Orthopaedic Spine Surgery

  • • Adult spine: University Hospital, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Portland OR (2017-18)
  • • Pediatric spine: Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston MA (2015-16)

Orthopaedic Joint Surgery

  • • Hip & Knee: Lenox Hill Hospital, Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, New York NY (2014-15)
  • • Shoulder & Elbow: Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York NY (2016-17)

Dr. Boddu is as fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic surgeons and North American Spine Society. He is also in the process of becoming a fellow of American Academy of Hip & Knee Surgeons and American Shoulder & Elbow Society.

Dr. Boddu and his dedicated staff offer the most comprehensive approach to patients in dealing with spine and large joint problems. His surgical approach to these issues is truly comprehensive. Though anatomically distinct, they often can present clinically with overlapping symptoms. Finding the right surgical solutions when everything else is not working can be time consuming and frustrating for both patients and their providers. Because of his unique two years of fellowship training in spine surgery and two more years of fellowship training in hip & knee/shoulder & elbow surgery, Dr. Boddu and his team bring a holistic surgical experience for patients requiring any of the following procedures:

Orthopaedic Spine Surgery: Neck & Back

  • • Spinal decompression
  • • Spinal fusion
  • • Spine deformity correction
  • • Spine arthroplasty

Orthopaedic Joint Surgery: Hip & Knee / Shoulder & Elbow

  • • Joint replacement (total and partial)
  • • Arthroscopy for joint preservation
  • • Sports surgery
  • • Fracture fixation around the joints

Dr. Boddu is also an active and well-published clinical researcher. He has over eight peer-reviewed scientific articles to his name in such journals as: the Spine Deformity, Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Research; the Bone and Joint Journal; American Journal of Orthopaedics; Techniques in Orthopaedics; and, Austin Journal of Musculoskeletal Disorders.
