Biography

Matthew Gibson, MD is a vascular surgeon employed by MUSC with practice locations in Murrells Inlet and Georgetown, South Carolina. His primary clinical interests are treating patients with peripheral artery disease (blockages of the arteries in the legs and elsewhere), surgical hemodialysis access creation and maintenance, endovascular (minimally invasive) treatments of arteries and veins including stent placement, management of carotid artery disease, and treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms. He is also certified by ARDMS for the interpretation of non-invasive vascular lab (ultrasound) studies.

Dr. Gibson joined MUSC in 2021. He completed medical school in 2013, graduating from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He completed an integrated vascular surgery residency training program at MUSC in 2018. He has previously worked in a large group private practice in Raleigh, NC gaining experience in a wide range of vascular surgery diseases and treatments. He has lived in the Carolinas for the past 8 years, but is originally a native of Minnesota. His undergraduate education was completed at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN; he graduated magna cum laude in 2009 with a double major in biomedical engineering and mathematics. He is looking forward to providing outstanding care to all residents of the coastal South Carolina region.
