His graduate work was in the field of molecular protein modeling in biophysics. Dr. Gottipaty completed his Internal Medicine training at University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, followed by his Cardiology Fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He was an assistant professor at University of Pittsburgh for several years, until he moved to Columbia, South Carolina.

He has extensive research experience in Biophysics, computer programming, and medical Information management. Clinically, he renders care in the management of complex cardiac arrhythmias. His areas of expertise include loss of consciousness, ambulatory ECG monitoring, complex arrhythmia management of atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, sudden death, and heart failure. He is fully versed in techniques of ablation and pacemaker/defibrillator implantation. He has focused on improving the safety and shortening the duration of arrhythmia interventional procedures, to the point of safely discharging patients to their homes, on the day of their procedure.
