Milton Armstrong, M.D. is a plastic surgeon with additional training and expertise in hand & microsurgery. Dr Armstrong’s practice includes management of routine hand
problems, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger fingers and arthritis. He has expertise in re-attaching amputated fingers and hands and reconstructing pediatric problems, such as webbing of fingers, duplicated digits, and absent thumbs. He has performed over 2,000 breast reductions, hundreds of body contouring operations, burn repairs with skin grafts and microsurgical reconstructions. His expertise, coupled with that of his practice colleagues, makes MUSC Plastic Surgery the most comprehensive destination for state-of-the-art plastic, hand and reconstructive care.
His training includes full training in general surgery (5 years) with an additional 12-month research experience at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. He subsequently completed a two-year fellowship in plastic surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine and a one-year fellowship in hand surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine program. These nine years of post-graduate training after medical school and 29 years of academic practice make Dr. Armstrong uniquely suited to manage complex reconstructive problems.
As an educator, Dr. Armstrong has had the opportunity to train over 50 plastic surgeons, many of whom have gone on to academic careers themselves. He is a director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a member of the Board of the Directors of the American Association for Hand Surgery, and a member of the National Board of Medical Examiners, as well as numerous other professional organizations. These affiliations, along with his clinical expertise, provide the strong foundation that allows Dr. Armstrong to provide consultations and care to patients that few plastic or hand surgeons in North America can provide.
In addition to his busy clinical practice, Dr. Armstrong serves the Medical University of South Carolina as the chief of plastic, reconstructive and hand surgery and the program director for the 3-year plastic surgery program the flagship Plastic Surgery program in the state of South Carolina.
