Biography

Dr. Michael Casey is a nephrologist who specializes in adult kidney and pancreas transplantation. He attended medical school at the University of North Carolina where he was awarded a student research grant in neurobiology, as well as several other student honors. After medical school, Dr. Casey completed his internal medicine residency at California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco, and subsequently his nephrology fellowship at Stanford University.

After completing his transplant nephrology fellowship at California Pacific Medical Center, Dr. Casey joined the University of Florida as a transplant nephrologist in 2008. While serving as a full time faculty member, he earned a master's degree in Clinical and Translational Science from the University of Florida in 2012. Dr. Casey was recruited to the Medical University of South Carolina in 2018.

Dr. Casey served as Director for the Immunosuppression Maintenance after Return to ESRD (IMARE) Clinic — a first of its kind specialty care clinic to improve a patient's chance for re-transplantation. He was a founding member of the University of Florida kidney paired donation program and also headed a subcommittee for the national OPTN Kidney Paired Donation Program.

Dr. Casey's other interests include transplant immunosuppression and post-transplant outcomes research (which he has presented at numerous national and international transplant conferences). Dr. Casey is board-certified in nephrology and internal medicine, and is a member of the American Society of Transplantation.
