Born and raised in Connecticut, Dr. Raymond Turner was a scholarship athlete prior to attending medical school. He completed his neurosurgery residency and fellowship at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Turner was recruited to join the MUSC faculty in 2008. He is currently professor of neurosurgery and chief of the Neuroscience Integrated Center of Clinical Excellence.  

His clinical interests are related to stroke, brain hemorrhage, brain aneurysms, subarachnoid hemorrhage, vascular malformation, moya moya, cavernous malformations, and novel techniques to improve access to minimally invasive surgery. He is active in teaching at the national level and has given numerous invited lectureships around the world. Recognized as an expert in cerebrovascular disease, his research interests are related to the development of innovative devices to treat cerebrovascular disorders.
