MUSC Health is closely monitoring the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The safety of our patients & care team is our number one priority.
In April, the MUSC Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Program offered a virtual support group to patients. We had a great turnout and learned a lot about what people want out of support groups – one being a virtual option moving forward! A virtual platform allows us to connect with one another without having to be in the same room, city, state or even country. And during economic and/or medical hardships (like a pandemic), we need that option more than ever!
A common theme that we have seen among people during the COVID-19 pandemic is the need to share. Whether it be uplifting stories, recipes, exercise resources or even a funny meme, we all need to share with one another in order to feel connected. Your Bariatric Dietitians, Molly and Amanda, have been sharing some of their favorite recipes with one another through email (stay tuned for future blog posts as we plan to share some of these with you as well!). Your Bariatric Nurse Practitioner, Lauren Timmerman, has been sharing some of her favorite YouTube home workout videos with the team through text messages so we can all stay active during this time of quarantine. And your Bariatric Program Coordinator, Nina Crowley, has been staying connected with important organizations like the Obesity Action Coalition to make sure we are all doing our part as providers to help our patients during this trying time.
To keep this trend going, we wanted to share some of our favorite interactive resources with you:
We hope these resources will help you stay healthy, active and engaged during this unique time in our world’s history! Please connect with our team on Facebook, and follow along for additional resources and information about our next support group.
