A team of experts, led by our physical therapists, will review all of your assistive technology needs and make recommendations as needed. Our clinical experts use advanced technology to determine each patient’s specific needs; they also assist in the ordering, fitting, and adjustments of the new equipment as well as provide follow-up consultations, education, and training on the use and care of their new assistive technology.
Our fibromyalgia program focuses on education and a program to identify specific weaknesses and body mechanic/postural issues that may elevate pain in affected muscles. We instruct patients in an individualized, progressive, gentle exercise program to achieve an active lifestyle with the highest level of function possible.
The Work Injury Management Program at MUSC Health offers Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) testing and work hardening/conditioning assessment and management for our patients as ordered by their physicians, employers, or worker's compensation. These services are designed and administered by a board Certified Specialist in Functional Assessment. The purpose of an FCE is to determine an objective measure of a client's safe functional abilities as compared with specific demands of work. It has become an increasingly effective tool in determining physical return to work readiness, assisting physicians in final impairment and disability ratings, maximal medical improvement ratings, as well as a determining a patient's motivation for improvement or return to work.
These evaluations are completed by our trained staff and overseen by a physical therapist. Evaluations provide valuable quantitative information and results include bilateral strength comparisons and progress from baseline testing of the appropriate muscle groups. Results from the dynamometric testing can be used for pre-employment strength testing, pre- and post- surgery comparisons, as well as return to work and sport determination.

Learn more about the Sports Medicine Program at MUSC Health.
As an athlete, success and effectiveness can depend on having a distinct edge over the opponent. Many athletes sustain injuries or fail to deliver peak performance due to poor mechanics and lack of proper nutrition, fitness training, and education. As part of MUSC Health’s multi-disciplinary approach to sports medicine, our sports performance program will help develop power, agility, speed, and overall athletic achievement. We will incorporate sports nutrition, injury prevention, strength training, speed and agility training, plyometrics, proper running mechanics, and flexibility training in a comprehensive program that can be carried over into multiple sports. It is our ultimate goal to provide athletes with all the tools necessary to enable them to perform at their maximum potential.
MUSC Health Sports Medicine has developed an injury prevention program based on current research and the analysis of sport-specific injuries. Our approach focuses on age group-specific needs and physiologic maturity levels to teach athletes the proper form and technique required for safe athletic participation. This method is primarily geared toward protecting the joints of the lower extremities and core, and can be adjusted for multiple sports. A variety of strengthening, flexibility, stabilization, and dynamic exercises will help to prevent injuries and enhance an athlete’s in-season and off-season training.
Our skilled athletic trainers and physical therapists can present this program to sports teams and groups and follow up with those participants to make sure they have been able to implement the program effectively.
