He completed residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina, and then went on to complete a sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction fellowship at the Taos Orthopaedic Institute in Taos, New Mexico. Dr. Woolf returned to Charleston to join the faculty in the Department of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2006. His practice has focused on all types of shoulder conditions affecting children and adults, knee ligament and cartilage injury, and treatment of various other sports-related injuries. He provides a thorough evaluation and examination and then reviews all treatment options with his patients, including non-surgical and surgical.

Dr. Woolf is board-certified and holds a certificate of added qualification in orthopaedic sports medicine. He has served as Chief of Sports Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina since 2013. Along with other members of the MUSC Health sports medicine team, he provides medical coverage and support as head orthopaedic physician to the Charleston Battery (USL Championship), chief tournament physician for the Volvo Car Open tennis tournament (WTA), as well as team physician for the Charleston Riverdogs (MiLB), numerous local high schools, and other sports organizations in the Lowcountry. Dr. Woolf has served in the medical pool for the United States Ski and Snowboard Team. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and American Orthopaedic Association. He will serve on the AAOS Board of Councilors beginning in 2020. He is past-president of the South Carolina Orthopaedic Association and a past president of the Charleston County Medical Society. He has authored or co-authored numerous scientific articles on knee and shoulder research topics.

Dr. Woolf's clinical interests include sports medicine, treatment of the overhead athlete, injuries to the knee and shoulder, rotator cuff disorders, shoulder instability, shoulder arthritis and replacement, knee ligament instability, anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL) injury, meniscus tears, and cartilage injury. Dr. Woolf is skilled in advanced arthroscopic techniques, which can offer less invasive treatment options for many shoulder, knee, and hip conditions. One of his academic interests is instructing residents and other practicing surgeons in such arthroscopic techniques. He also welcomes second opinion visits and treatment of patients who have had bad outcomes with previous surgeries. His goal is to find and correct the problems that are causing your pain, loss of motion, and poor function.
