Isabel Detzler

Isabel is a Certified Medical Interpreter in Spanish (CMI-Spanish) and holds a BA degree in English Literature & Creative Writing from Emerson College in Boston, MA. She started her professional career as an interpreter in 1996 and joined MUSC in 2005. She is also a authorized trainer for Bridging the Gap – Medical Interpreter Training.

Sam Cogdell

Sam completed graduate studies in Hispanic literature and has taught Spanish language and Latin American literature since 1980. He has been a Spanish-English staff medical interpreter at MUSC since 2003 and instructor of Spanish for health care professions in the MUSC Interprofessional curriculum. He is an American Translators Association certified translator (Spanish into English), certified medical interpreter through the Certification Commission for Health care Interpreters (CHI - Spanish), and an authorized trainer for the medical interpreting curriculum Bridging the Gap.

Daniel Torrelio

Daniel is a national certified Spanish interpreter through the Certification Commission for Health care Interpreters (CHI - Spanish) and an authorized trainer for the medical interpreting curriculum Bridging the Gap. Daniel came to the MUSC as a volunteer in September 2009. Prior to that, he spent eight years living abroad in Lima, Peru. Through Bridging the Gap’s training program he has become knowledgeable of the interpreter’s role in the patient-provider relationship. He looks forward to sharing his years of experience, training, and passion for patient care through medical interpreting.
