Patient Safety & Social Distancing at MUSC Health Locations

During the COVID-19 pandemic, patients who need medical care should seek treatment. MUSC Health is taking steps to ensure patients can manage their healthcare needs while minimizing the spread of COVID-19 within our clinics. If you have any questions about your patient care needs, please call your doctor’s office directly.

The MUSC Health Emergency Department and many ambulatory clinics, including the West Ashley Medical Pavilion, are open to meet your medical needs. As MUSC Health opens clinics, we are actively practicing social distancing and adhering to strict cleaning and safety measures.

MUSC Health is taking additional safety precautions to protect patients, care team members, and families:

  • Restricted visitor policy in the hospital and ambulatory locations
  • Screening all patients and visitors for respiratory symptoms prior to entering our facilities
  • Separating patients with respiratory symptoms from other patients
  • Where available, patients can register and wait for their appointment in car.
  • Patient areas, including waiting rooms, set up to follow social distancing guidelines
  • Surfaces in our facilities are actively disinfected and cleaned between patients and multiple times throughout the day.
  • Hand sanitizer is available throughout our facilities.
  • Masks are required and readily available for patients, visitors, and care team members.
  • Active use of telemedicine appointments
  • Special operating and procedure rooms have been designated for COVID-19 patients, with additional disinfectant steps in place after every procedure in these rooms.
  • All patients receive COVID-19 testing before surgeries and many procedures.
  • Surgeons, procedural physicians and nurses are all tested for immunity to COVID-19.
  • Care team members are self-monitoring and immediately self-isolate if symptoms are present. Care Team members are not allowed to return to work until they test negative for COVID-19.

We understand patients may have concerns about coming to the hospital or doctor’s office. MUSC Health is following all the guidelines recommended by the Center for Disease Control, as well as guidelines from MUSC leadership.

We look forward to continuing to meet the healthcare needs of the community we serve, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Patient safety, along with the safety of our care team, is our top priority. We want to assure you that we are monitoring and updating our practices daily to ensure we are following the latest recommendations.
