Education Innovation at MUSC

Innovation in education refers to the effective introduction of new ideas, processes or products that transform teaching and learning. It involves implementing and assessing creative solutions for educational pain points for a particular individual or group that promote improved cognitive and emotional outcomes for learners and educators. This can manifest as new pedagogical theories, methodologies, teaching techniques, instructional tools, learning processes, or organizational structures that bring significant changes to education, resulting in better student learning and outcomes. Embracing innovation in education means being open to new approaches and continuously seeking improvement.

Education Innovation Advocates Program

The Education Innovation Advocate program is a grassroots / bottom-up / colleague-to-colleague pilot initiative encouraging faculty to “think big” and re-imagine the learning experience and create a culture of innovation within the classroom (face to face or online). One faculty member from each college and Academic Affairs, selected via an application process and approved by their respective dean/chair, will fill a 1-year role, with the potential to renew for up to three years, in support of education innovation. Faculty will receive sponsorship to attend a conference/workshop inspiring them on innovative pedagogy in higher education and $3,000 incentive pay pending completion of goals established at the beginning of the program and approved by the Education Innovation Cabinet (EIC).
