Dr. Robert Daniel Vorona is an adult sleep medicine specialist in the Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine. He has helped care for adult sleep medicine patients for over 30 years, initially in private practice and for the last 20 years in medical schools in Virginia and now South Carolina.

Dr. Vorona received his college degree from Duke University and then attended medical school at the University of Virginia. He performed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and finished his training in Pulmonary Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has attained board certifications in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Medicine although he now concentrates his patient care efforts on adult sleep medicine.

Prior to coming to MUSC in April of 2018, Dr. Vorona served for 19 years at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) where he cared for sleep disorders patients on a daily basis, was the medical director for two sleep disorders centers, and Program Director of the EVMS Sleep Medicine fellowship training program. He came to MUSC in large part to help direct the Sleep Medicine patient care and educational programs. At MUSC, he continues to care for sleep medicine patients with a broad range of sleep disorders. He has previously had a number of research interests but most recently has focused on the impact of reduced sleep times in teens and the possible impact of early high school starting times.
