CHARLESTON, S.C. (April 21, 2026) – MUSC Health is breaking ground for the Nexton Medical Pavilion to bring medical specialties closer to home by expanding access to high-quality care. Bringing more services and providers to the area, the new pavilion will reduce travel times and improve timely access to care for fast-growing communities.
“We are proud to serve as a place where patients receive outstanding care, future providers are trained in nationally recognized academic programs and transformational research elevates quality of life,” said Gene Hong, M.D., chief executive physician, MUSC Physicians and MUSC Health. “Through partnership, progress and investment in the future, we hope to make a lasting impact for the future.”
Designed to bring a wide range of medical services to Nexton and the surrounding communities in Berkeley County, the four-story, 80,000-square-foot medical office building will enable patients to receive world-class local care. The facility will offer comprehensive services including imaging, phlebotomy, infusion (non-chemotherapy), breast health, pelvic floor care, physical and occupational therapy and specialty care in neurology, neurosurgery, spine, cardiology, orthopedics, urology, OB-GYN, surgical subspecialties and otolaryngology.
The $87 million pavilion is expected to serve 800 patients daily, meeting a critical need as Moncks Corner and Summerville are projected to grow by nearly 29,000 residents—about 10%—over the next five years.
“Today’s groundbreaking marks continued progress in meeting the health care needs of the Nexton area,” said Johnny Cribb, Berkeley County supervisor. “MUSC Health’s investment reflects a commitment to growing alongside our communities. As our county and region continue to expand, projects like this help strengthen the local health care system, enhance quality of life and support long-term well-being for the families who live and work here.”
The pavilion is expected to open in fall 2027 and is located across from MUSC Hollings Cancer Center at Nexton and MUSC Health Nexton Medical Center.
