CHARLESTON, S.C. (Oct. 22, 2026) – MUSC Health celebrated a major construction milestone for the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center in Nexton, marking the completion of the facility’s highest structural point. The 30,000-square-foot outpatient facility will expand access to advanced cancer care for patients and families in Berkeley County and surrounding communities.
“This topping out marks an important milestone as we bring these new facilities closer to reality for the patients and families who will rely on them,” said Patrick J. Cawley, M.D., CEO, MUSC Health. “We are proud to continue investing in Berkeley County and expanding access to MUSC’s expertise and comprehensive care closer to home.”
The new ambulatory cancer facility will provide medical and surgical oncology services, featuring an advanced infusion suite with an on-site compounding pharmacy and advanced radiation therapy technology.
MUSC Hollings Cancer Center in Nexton will share a campus with the future MUSC Health Nexton Medical Center, a 70-bed hospital offering general medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, women’s health and cardiology services in addition to inpatient and intensive care. The new hospital will bring these services closer to home for Berkeley County residents, many of whom currently receive inpatient care at MUSC Health facilities elsewhere in the region.
The MUSC Hollings Cancer Center in Nexton will work closely with the NCI-designated MUSC Hollings Cancer Center on the Charleston peninsula as well as the new MUSC comprehensive cancer hospital planned for downtown Charleston.
The MUSC Hollings Cancer Center in Nexton is expected to open in summer 2027, followed by the MUSC Health Nexton Medical Center in summer 2028.
