Research Contact Preferences

Instructions on Changing Patient Research Contact Preference in MyChart

How to opt out of research contact:

  1. If you already have an MUSC MyChart account, sign into your account by entering your username and password and selecting the green “Sign In” button.

**If you have never created a MyChart account before, select the blue button labeled “Create Your Account” and follow the prompts. Once an account is created, you can follow the steps outlined below.
  1. At the top of your MyChart homepage, look for three stacked horizontal lines on the left-hand side of the screen, serving as the “Menu” icon. Click the menu icon to display a navigation column.

  2. Under “Research Studies,” click “My Research Studies.”

  3. Scroll to where it says, “Research Contact Preference” and click on the "Contact Preferences” button (note: you may have to first expand the section by using the down arrow to the right of the “Research Contact Preference” heading for the button to be visible).

  4. On the first page of the questionnaire, you will see a sentence in a white box stating, “I do not want to be contacted about potential research opportunities.” Click on the text box to highlight it and then click “Continue.”

  5. A notification box will appear with important information about your choice to opt out of being contacted for research opportunities. Please take a few moments to read the paragraph before clicking “Continue.”

  6. On the final page, you’ll be asked to review your new preference indication, changing you from a patient who would like to hear about MUSC research study opportunities to no longer wanting contact. Click the “Save” button to save your new preference.

How to remove an opt-out status and be eligible for contact about research opportunities

  1. Follow steps 1–4 described above.

  2. On the Research Contact Preference questionnaire page, you will see an acknowledgment that you have previously declined to be contacted about MUSC research studies. Below that acknowledgment is a text box that reads, “I would like to be contacted about future research studies for which I may qualify.” To change your contact preference to once again allow for research contact, click on the text box to highlight it and then click "Continue."

  3. A notification box with important information regarding your choice to receive contact about research opportunities will appear. Please take a few moments to read the paragraph before clicking “Continue.”

  4. On the final page, you’ll be asked to review your preference indication, confirming one final time that you would like to hear about MUSC research studies. Click “Save.”
