How Virtual Primary Care Works

Skip the waiting room and see a trusted MUSC Health primary care provider from the comfort of home. With Virtual Video Primary Care, you get the same expert care, personal connection and ongoing support you’d expect in person.

Be sure to complete your E-check in by logging in to your Ovatient MyChart account by smartphone, tablet or computer a few minutes before your visit to ensure you have a strong internet connection and your device’s camera, microphone and speakers are working as they should. Be sure to find a quiet, private location to conduct the video visit.

Whether you’re managing a chronic condition, seeking care for something new or just trying to stay healthy, each video visit is customized for your unique needs.

At the end of your video visit, your provider will go over the next steps for your care. They’ll also coordinate any follow-up visits if needed and send you a detailed After Visit Summary.

All of our virtual care options allow you to be seen quickly using your smartphone, tablet or computer:

Virtual Primary Care

  • For those who prefer scheduled appointments or recurring appointments with the same provider
  • Perfect for those looking to build a lasting relationship with a primary care provider. These visits allow for in-depth discussions about your overall health, preventive care, and management of chronic conditions.
  • Your care is conducted through a video visit and secure messaging with your provider between visits.
  • Your virtual primary care provider will prescribe any needed medications at your preferred pharmacy, or place orders for imaging or labs at a convenient location for you.

Virtual Urgent Care

  • For minor illnesses and injuries that do not require an in-person physical exam. A virtual urgent care visit might include sprains, strains, cough/cold symptoms, flu symptoms, rashes, COVID concerns and more
  • Use a chat or do a video visit with the next available provider. Prescriptions are sent to your pharmacy in 15 minutes.

Our virtual primary care providers can be a key part of your ongoing medical care team.

All of the information from your virtual care visit will be recorded in your MyChart and medical record for easy access by you and your care team at MUSC Health.

Your virtual primary care provider will follow up after your visit, as needed. The next time you need a visit, you can select them within MUSC Health MyChart or from the MUSC Health provider directory to continue your care relationship.

All of the care you receive from your virtual primary care provider is coordinated with other care team members at MUSC Health. You will always be directed to the most appropriate type of care for your specific needs.

If your health concern is of an urgent nature, select our virtual urgent care feature. You will be able to see a provider by video or chat.

Virtual primary care visits are covered by any in-network health plan, including Medicare and Medicaid. If you don’t have insurance, you can also pay $80 a visit.

Providers are specially trained to conduct consultations with patients over video visits. During these visits, the provider may ask about symptoms, medical history, and any concerns you may have. They may also provide instructions for self-examination or use specialized equipment that you have access to, such as a smartphone with a high-resolution camera.

MUSC Health has partnered with Ovatient to bring you fast, convenient virtual care. Because Ovatient uses its own medical record system, you’ll need to create a separate MyChart account when you sign up. Once your Ovatient MyChart account is created, you can easily link your MUSC Health and Ovatient accounts, so everything stays connected. Once linked, you’ll see all your test results, medications, appointments, and messages in one place. This also helps your providers coordinate your care seamlessly.

Yes! Linking your MUSC Health and Ovatient MyChart accounts is easy and gives your care team a complete, up-to-date view of your health. With accounts linked, you can see test results, medications, appointments, and messages from both organizations in one place, and your providers can coordinate care more easily.

How to link (web or app)

  • Sign in to MUSC Health MyChart.
  • Open Profile → Link My Accounts (or Menu → Add Organization).
  • Search for “MUSC Health” and “Ovatient,” select each, and choose Connect. That’s it!

Depending on your condition and your provider’s expert opinion, a wide variety of prescriptions can be prescribed for you during your video visit. However, we do not prescribe controlled substances or opioids.
