The mission of the MUSC Health Rena N. Grant Sickle Cell Center is to enable South Carolina citizens living with sickle cell disease to thrive physically and mentally through compassionate and innovative care, research, and education.
The Sickle Cell Center is now located on the 2nd floor of Rutledge Tower and is home to many of our outpatient services. You may be familiar with this space, as it was previously the location for the Pediatric Sickle Cell Clinic. Please call 843-876-0888 with any questions.
Sickle cell disease is the most common inherited blood disorder in the United States. Approximately 100,000 Americans and over 4,000 South Carolinians have sickle cell disease. It is a life-limiting disease that affects all parts of the body, causing multi-system complications that often result in life-threatening infections, stroke, and organ damage.
Because sickle cell disease is a complicated condition, we offer a broad range of specialty services to meet the needs of patients 18 years of age and older with the disease. The care team includes a medical director, advanced practice providers, registered nurses, a pharmacist, a psychologist, hematologists, a complex pain specialist, a social worker, and a clinical care coordinator.
Patient and family education, as well as counseling, is incorporated into all clinic visits. Our clinic provides acute care for patients with pain, fever, and other complications of sickle cell disease and comprehensive, routine care and disease-specific management.
