Summer College Program

The summer intensive for college students will take place May- August, 2023.  Participants in the Summer College Program at MUSC Health have the opportunity to interact with visitors, patients, and staff in a variety of settings. We strive to provide meaningful and educational opportunities for college students.

In order to get the best experience a commitment of two shifts per week will be required and volunteers must be able to complete 75- 100 hours by the end the program.

  

Program Requirements:

-Must be 18 years of age 
-Successful completion of a criminal background check 
-Successful IN PERSON pre-placement health screening
-Health screen includes-immunization records for Hep B, Varicella, MMR, Tdap, Covid-19 (including booster) and flu (when in season) and a TB screening
-Volunteer training
-Required Service: 75-100 hours
-Available May-August, two days a week for a minimum of 8 weeks

*Please note: At this time summer placements will only take place in adult and ambulatory settings

 

Application Process: 

  • APPLICATION is currently closed due to overwhelming response
  • April 3-7, 2023 interview offers extended
  • April 10- 21, 2023 virtual interviews will take place
  • Completion of onboarding process takes approximately one month

*Due to the volume of applications we receive we are unable to accept every applicant.

 

Volunteer Placements: 

Roles will be assigned to volunteers based on availability and placements will occur in adult clinical and non-clinical areas.

  • Emergency Department (must be at least 21)
  • Outpatient Surgery
  • Prep & Recovery
  • Intensive Care Units
  • Inpatient Units
  • Guest Services & Wayfinding
  • Patient Transport
  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Outpatient Surgery Center
  • Physical Therapy
