Summer College Volunteer Program

Participants in our Summer College Volunteer Program at MUSC Health in Charleston will have the opportunity to interact with visitors, patients, and Care Team Members in a variety of settings. We strive to provide meaningful and educational opportunities for college students with an interest in a healthcare career.

Program Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age
• Must complete online application
• Must submit letter of recommendation from teacher, guidance counselor, employer, or leader of applicable student organization
• Must submit supplemental survey
• Must complete the below before start date:
  • Criminal background check
  • Virtual Orientation
  • In-person health screening at downtown Charleston campus
    • Health screen includes review of immunization records for Hep B, Varicella, MMR, Tdap, and a TB screening
  • In-person training of volunteer assignment at downtown Charleston campus
• Must complete a minimum of 72 hours, completing 2-3 shifts a week
• Must be available for information sessions and workshops during program

Hospital badge, meal vouchers, and parking will be provided. Start date is dependent on participant's availability.

Volunteer Placements

Roles will be assigned based on department needs and availability of volunteer. Placements will occur in clinical and non-clinical areas. At this time, summer placements will only take place in adult and ambulatory settings in our downtown Charleston campus.

Example Placements:

• Emergency Department
• Outpatient Surgery, Prep & Recovery
• ICU
• Inpatient Units
• Patient Transport
• Outpatient Clinics
• Infection Prevention

Applications will only be accepted during application window.

• March 30 through April 3, 2026

Late applications and students that are unable to meet the requirements will not be considered for the summer program. Applicants selected for interview will be contacted by email.
