Participants in our Summer College Volunteer Program at MUSC Health have the opportunity to interact with visitors, patients, and staff in a variety of settings. We strive to provide meaningful and educational opportunities for college students with an interest in a healthcare career.

Program Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Criminal background check
  • In-person health screening
    • Health screen includes review of immunization records for Hep B, Varicella, MMR, Tdap, Covid-19, and Flu (when in season) and a TB screening
  • Virtual orientation
  • In-person training of volunteer assignment

Accepted volunteers will be required to complete a total of 80 hours by coming in twice a week for 4 hours for a total of 10 weeks. Uniform, hospital badge, meal vouchers, and parking will be provided.

Volunteer Placements: 

Roles will be assigned to volunteers based on availability and placements will occur in clinical and non-clinical areas. At this time, summer placements will only take place in adult and ambulatory settings.

Example Placements:

  • Emergency Department (must be at least 21)
  • Outpatient Surgery, Prep & Recovery
  • ICU
  • Inpatient Units
  • Patient Transport
  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Outpatient Surgery Center

Late applications and students that are unable to meet the requirements will not be considered for the summer program.
