Internal Medicine Residency Program at MUSC Health Florence

Training Tomorrow's Leaders

More About The Program

The Department of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is dedicated to providing exceptional education and training for future healthcare leaders in clinical practice, research, and education. Our Internal Medicine Residency Training Program includes over 100 residents from various backgrounds, who are the backbone of our program's excellence and reputation. The program fosters a collaborative learning environment, where residents, faculty, and students work together closely.

Our residents gain comprehensive clinical experience through rotations on ward services, consult services, and in the emergency department at three teaching hospitals: Medical University Hospital, Ashley River Tower, and the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center.

In addition to inpatient training, residents also participate in subspecialty and general medicine outpatient clinics at these hospitals. This experience allows them to manage follow-up and continuing care for discharged patients, all under the mentorship of our experienced full-time faculty.

Using our regional resources and those of the entire Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) system, we will train physicians with the clinical, personal, professional and interdisciplinary competencies to provide exceptional patient care. Our graduates will improve access, health outcomes and the quality of care in the communities they serve, with special focus on rural and medically underserved areas and populations.
