Kids stay at school. Parents don't have to leave work. MUSC provides children across South Carolina with general pediatric and behavioral health services conveniently at school through telehealth. School-based telehealth can be found in over 150 school districts across South Carolina.

What is School-Based Behavioral Telehealth?
Children can benefit from integrated mental health services while at school through telehealth technology. Our school-based therapist works with each child to support emotional, behavioral, and social challenges.What conditions can be treated?
- Adjustment disorder
- Anxiety Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Autism
- Depression
- Grief/loss
- Mood disorders
- Trauma-related disorders
How does it work?
After you enroll in the program, you can schedule an appointment through the school nurse, social worker or counselor. Students are seen virtually at school in a private space to ensure confidentiality.
How can I make a referral?
You can make referrals for therapy and psychiatry by submitting the MUSC School-Based Therapy referral form.
How do I pay for appointments?
Medicaid covers visits. Private insurance coverage varies, copays and deductibles apply.

The School-based Behavioral Telehealth program is available in a number of districts and schools:

- Charleston District
- Charter Schools (Liberty STEAM, Carolina Voyager, Compass Collegiate, High School for Health Professionals)
- Dorchester District 2
- Governor's School of Arts & Humanities
- Governor's School of Math & Science
- Meeting Street Schools

What is School-Based Pediatric Telehealth?
Children can be examined, diagnosed, and treated by a trusted health care provider while at school using the latest telehealth technology.
What conditions can be treated?
- Acne
- Asthma
- Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Congestion/sore throat
- Flu/Covid symptoms
- Head lice
- Pink eye
- Rashes
- Upset stomach
- Urinary track infection (UTI)
How does it work?
After you enroll for the program, you can schedule an appointment through the school nurse. Students are evaluated in the school nurse's office. Virtual visits from home are also available.
