Dermatology Research Fellowship
About the Program
The MUSC Department of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery has a clinical research fellowship position available starting Summer 2026. The fellow will work directly with MUSC’s dermatology research faculty and staff, including clinical research coordinators and residents, while on campus in MUSC’s Department offices and clinic sites. Clinical and research faculty with interest in Dermatological Skin Diseases and related issues from the Dermatology department and collaborating departments will provide support and guidance to the fellow. The majority of the fellowship involves seeing adult and pediatric patients enrolled in our 25+ ongoing clinical trials under the mentorship of Dr. Lara Wine Lee and other MUSC Dermatology faculty. The position offers opportunity for clinical dermatology experience and research publications. Applicants will need to be eligible to obtain a South Carolina medical license. The position is available for 1-2 years.
Mentors will provide guidance and education regarding the skin conditions and dermatological diseases. The fellow will attend mentors’ clinics as necessary and will be instructed on patient recruitment for relevant studies after receiving appropriate recommendations on informed consent processes and patient education. Mentors will provide clinical and pathological education regarding relevant inflammatory skin diseases, including atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, dermatomyositis, cutaneous lupus, morphea, alopecia areata, hidradenitis suppurativa, prurigo nodularis, and vitiligo among others.
The research fellowship position will allow a designated individual first-hand experience in submitting research proposals to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), recruiting and enrolling patients into Clinical Trials for various skin conditions, performing chart reviews, physician assessments, in addition to other research-related tasks. The fellow will develop an intricate understanding of designing, initiating, and conducting various types of research projects.
