NTM are bacteria that are common in our environment, for example in water and soil. NTM can cause infections of the lungs, skin, and other tissues and organs, and these infections can be challenging to diagnose and treat. The multidisciplinary team at the MUSC Nontuberculous Mycobacteria Program works with each patient to develop and undertake an individualized, comprehensive treatment approach. Our team has the depth and breadth of expertise to address all facets of NTM infections in one clinic location.
NTM infections are treated with a combination of antibiotics as well as complementary therapies to treat the underlying condition. However, not all NTM infections need to be treated, which is why a comprehensive evaluation is necessary to define the best treatment regimen for each patient.
We are committed to partnering with patients, their families, and their local clinical care providers to achieve the best possible outcomes.
