Student Clinic for Routine Care

Patients who seek affordable and comprehensive dental care choose to receive their treatment through the Dental Student Clinics. Students work directly under the supervision of full and part time faculty. All patients are assured of receiving quality care and personal attention from the faculty and staff. Treatment will take longer than in a private office, therefore, patients are asked to be available for three hour sessions on a regular basis

In order to become a patient of the Dental Student Teaching Clinics, one must be screened by a faculty member.

Adult Care (18 Years & Older)

The first step in becoming a comprehensive care patient in the College of Dental Medicine is to arrange a screening appointment by calling 843-876-SMIL(E). A Professional Service Representative will schedule the appointment or add your name to the waiting list to be scheduled as soon as possible. The College of Dental Medicine screens on average 40-50 patients per week.

Screening Appointment (First Appointment)

The screening will be provided by one of the College’s Oral Medicine Faculty. Your dental needs will be matched with the needs and capabilities of the dental students. Not all patients will be accepted, however most will. Those not accepted will not be charged a screening fee and referred to a graduate residency, faculty practice, or the private sector. If accepted, a dental student will be assigned to you on the day of the screening appointment and the next 3 appointments will be scheduled with your student. The screening fee is $99, the initial prophy appointment is $46 and the treatment planning appointment is $46, for a total of $191. Prices are subject to change

Radiographs (Second Appointment)

At this appointment, an appropriate set of radiographs will be taken. If you have existing radiographs or duplicates, please bring them to the screening appointment so a determination can be made if any further radiographs are needed.

Periodontal Cleaning (Third Appointment)

A thorough exam and periodontal cleaning will be completed by your assigned student prior to the Treatment planning appointment.

Treatment Planning (Fourth Appointment)

A comprehensive treatment plan will be fabricated and presented to you so that you will understand treatment options, sequence, informed consent, estimated costs, and time involved. The treatment plan and / or fees may change as treatment progresses. Patient should expect annual fee increases.
