Administrative Fellowship Program

The MUSC Health Administrative Fellowship is a one-year, post-graduate program designed to equip highly qualified recent graduates with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to excel in academic health system administration.

Build in-depth experience for your healthcare career.

Guided by an executive preceptor, fellows gain broad exposure to departments, initiatives, and cross-functional teams within their assigned track. The Fellowship Management Team also facilitates experiences across the organization, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of MUSC Health’s operations and mission.

Each year, fellows are selected for placements across the state of South Carolina, including Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Greenville, and Lancaster. Regardless of their area of focus, fellows participate in a dynamic, project-based and rotational program tailored to their development goals.

 

Program Structure

The MUSC Health Administrative Fellowship is built on a model of "structured flexibility,” balancing intentional learning experiences with customizable opportunities that align with both fellow and organizational needs.

Fellows engage in a blend of project work, department rotations, and leadership development:

70% Project Work  -  20% Rotations  -  5% Capstone Project  -  5% Professional Development

Fellows select projects that match their interests and gain exposure to key areas outside their assigned.

Preceptor-Directed Program is Designed to:

  • Foster independence and experiential learning
  • Serve recent master’s program graduates
  • Operate under the guidance of a senior executive leader

Structure Includes:

  • Rotations in specialized departments and general assignments
  • Exposure to senior leadership and strategic decision-making

Fellows receive a competitive annual stipend and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus retirement options comparable to other MUSC Health employees.

The program spans across all four regions of the state of South Carolina and candidates may be considered for each.

The MUSC Health Administrative Fellowship is a structured, self-directed program for emerging healthcare leaders. Fellows work with senior system leaders, gaining experience through meetings, shadowing, and projects that span operations, finance, quality, and strategy.

Fellows collaborate with experienced executives and clinicians in an academic health system at the forefront of research and innovation. MUSC Health's multidisciplinary, team-based approach provides exposure to groundbreaking care and leadership.

Candidates must be recent graduates from accredited master’s programs or current students in programs requiring a third-year fellowship. Strong communication skills and a self-starting mindset are essential.

Fellows receive a competitive salary, full benefits, relocation reimbursement, and may qualify for travel support to attend regional or national healthcare conferences.

Applications open the second Thursday in June via the National Administrative Fellowship Centralized Application Service (NAFCAS).

MUSC Health does not sponsor international visas. Candidates needing visas must obtain them independently if selected.
