Pharmacy Educator Program (PEp)

The Pharmacy Educator program trains residents in the three pillars of academia (teaching, scholarship, and service) and basic preceptor skills. Pharmacists teach as part of their daily responsibilities, and whether pharmacists teach patients, caregivers, residents, students, or other healthcare professionals, the incorporation of good educational techniques can create successful learning outcomes. The 2023 ASHP Accreditation Standards for Pharmacy Residency Programs require all pharmacy residents to play a role in the education of patients, other healthcare professionals, and students, and this certification trains residents in skills necessary to be successful in didactic and experiential settings with content and experiences specifically chosen to create successful outcomes in these environments. The Residency Research Certificate Program is a requirement of this certification to assist residents in scholarly pursuits. Each resident is guided by a faculty mentor through the program. Upon completion, residents receive a digital badge they can use with most social media platforms and document formats. We have offered this certification since 2005 and more than 450 residents from South Carolina have completed the program.
