Information for Regional Health Network GME Applicants
MUSC-Regional Network offers an innovative Graduate Medical Education experience designed to train residents and provide a solid foundation of medical knowledge while ensuring a supportive learning environment. Residents will have access to the facilities and resources of one of the nation’s top-tier medical institutions and receive training in diverse health system settings providing them with a comprehensive and well-rounded educational experience.

To apply to the MUSC-Regional Network training programs, please submit a completed Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) application. Only applications received through ERAS will be considered. The application includes:
- Medical school transcripts
- Official test transcripts for all applicable examinations (USMLE, COMLEX or equivalent)
- A Dean's letter along with three other letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your professional qualifications
- A curriculum vitae
- A personal statement
Requirements for international medical graduates include the same criteria as listed above plus the following:
- Only applications received through ERAS will be considered
- Only J-1 visas accepted
- ECFMG Certification Status Report (please note all International Medical Graduates must be ECFMG certified by the start of the program)
MUSC-Regional Network residency programs are open to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and international applicants.
An applicant must meet one of the following qualifications to be eligible for appointment to an ACGME-accredited program:
- Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation; or,
- Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications:
- Have a currently-valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) prior to appointment.
- Holding a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in South Carolina.
- Applicants who are not citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States must be eligible and apply for sponsorship in the J-1 physician classification through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), or have a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services-issued employment authorization document that will be valid for the duration of the training program. MUSC-Regional Netork does not provide H1-B sponsorship.
- Prospective residents must pass a criminal background check, employee health clearance and drug screening through MUHA Human Resources.
Salaries effective July 1, 2024:
- PGY1: $62,593 with a $1,000 education allowance
- PGY2: $64,839 with a $1,250 education allowance
- PGY3: $67,083 with a $1,500 education allowance
All residents receive 3 weeks paid vacation and up to 3 weeks paid sick leave annually. Parental, caregiver, and medical leave are provided following ACGME and policy guidelines.
All PGY1 residents are eligible for a $1,500 sign on bonus to assist with transition and moving expenses.
