Magnet® Designation

Magnet LogoThe Magnet Recognition Program® granted by The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) is the gold standard for nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes. It is granted to only seven percent of U.S. hospitals. MUSC Health achieved the esteemed Magnet designation in 2015, re-designated in 2020 and is only one of six hospitals in South Carolina to achieve Magnet status.

We believe Magnet designation speaks to our ongoing commitment to clinical excellence, service to the community, inter-professional collaboration, a supportive work environment a culture of safety and to recruiting and retaining top nursing talent.

In this video Marilyn Schaffner, Ph.D., RN, then the Chief Nursing Officer, and Andrea Coyle, RN, Professional Excellence and Magnet® Program Director, describe the planning that led up to this recognition.
