Women's Reproductive Behavioral Health

The Women’s Reproductive Behavioral Health Division at MUSC Health serves a wide range of pregnant and postpartum women, including those with pre-existing and new mental health and substance use disorders.

The program offers preventative therapy for women at high risk for postpartum depression, counseling on the risks and benefits of medications during pregnancy or during lactation, and an array of treatment options for mental health and substance use disorders including alternative and lifestyle interventions, psychotherapy, and medication, if appropriate. Some of our treatments include Zulresso (Brexanolone) - the first FDA-approved treatment for Postpartum Depression and Subutex (Buprenorphine) for the treatment of opioid use disorder.

The goal of the Women’s Reproductive Behavioral Health Division is to create an individualized treatment plan that is tailored for each woman’s needs and supports her preferences and values. Our providers have expertise in the treatment of peripartum:

Pre-pregnancy consultation for women with a history of mental health problems or taking psychotropic medication is also available.
