About the Invasive Cardiovascular Technology Program

The Claude W. Smith M.D School of Cardiovascular Technology at MUSC Health now offers a program in the field of Invasive Cardiovascular Technology. The new Invasive CVT program is currently applying for initial accreditation JRC-CVT.

Upon completion of our program, you’ll be prepared to

  • Assist cardiologists in performing interventional and diagnostic cardiac and peripheral catherizations
  • Work with a life-saving team to stop and / or prevent patients from having ischemic attacks caused by a heart attack, stroke, or peripheral artery disease
  • Learn how to interpret a patient's hemodynamic and physiological state through state-of-the-art monitoring and x-ray systems
  • Become an eligible candidate to be employed in one of the highest-paying, rewarding, in-demand, and adrenaline-filled careers in health care

Invasive Cardiovascular Technology Program Licensure & Certification

Successful completion of the invasive CVT program will earn a graduate certificate in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology.

Examples of obtainable licensure and or certification are as follow;

CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) Eligibility

  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
    • A graduate of a NON-programmatically accredited program in invasive cardiovascular technology which has a minimum of one year of specialty training and includes a minimum of 800 clinical hours in the specialty in which the examination is being requested
    • RCIS5 Supporting Documents
      • Completion certificate and/or educational transcript
      • Student Verification Letter
      • Clinical Verification Letter
      • Students applying to take examination prior to graduation will be required to submit this documentation
