Computed tomography (CT) is a test used to make detailed images of internal structures of the body such as organs, soft tissue, blood vessels, and bones. The imaging data acquired can be reformatted in multiple planes and can even be used to create 3-dimensional reconstruction images such as 3D vascular reconstruction images (CT angiography) and "fly-through" images of the colon (CT Colonography). CT scanning is one of the most frequent tests ordered for diagnosing acute conditions such as appendicitis, or for detecting or following up cancers. For more detailed information regarding specific types of CT scans, please visit the Radiology Info for Patients website.

Most radiological exams require a physician referral. Physicians can call MEDULINE at 843-792-2200 or 800-922-5250 to refer a patient.
