Why Are Superfoods So Super?

Superfoods are nutritional powerhouses created by Mother Nature that contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Foods such as berries, avocadoes and kale can help you lose or maintain weight, prevent diseases and help you live a longer, healthier life.

Berries are high in fiber and are naturally sweet. Their dark blue color indicates they are high in antioxidants. You can buy them frozen or fresh to add to a smoothie, yogurt, or cereal.

Avocadoes are rich in fiber, folate, potassium, vitamin E, magnesium and healthy fats. Consuming healthy fats in moderation lowers your risk for cardiovascular disease and hypertension. Avocadoes can be cut up and made into guacamole, smoothies and Greek salads.

Kale is high in vitamins A, C and K. It is loaded with antioxidants that helps reduce oxidative damage in the body which is believed to be a leading cause of cancers and other diseases. Kale can be chopped up for salads or baked in the oven to make kale chips.
