Adult Inpatient Information

What You Should & Should Not Bring

To assure your safety and the safety of other patients, the following items are prohibited on our inpatient units: shoelaces, belts, clothes with drawstrings, weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, products that are flammable or toxic, wire coat hangers, plastic bags, and sharp items such as knives, glass, metal, and cans. Meals and snacks will be provided so please do not bring any outside food.

To maintain a quiet, healing environment, please do not bring pagers, computers, and/or cell phones. You will have access to a phone during your stay.

Please limit your personal belongings to three outfits. We can provide other necessary items for you. We will inspect your belongings for safety upon arrival to the Institute of Psychiatry (IOP). Although we can store your valuables, it is best to send them home with a family member, as we cannot be responsible for their safe-keeping.

The Institute of Psychiatry is a non-smoking hospital. Your physician may order nicotine gum, lozenges, and/or patches to help you during your stay.

Visitation at the Institute of Psychiatry

Your admission will remain confidential. Family and friends must have your personal confidentiality code to call or visit. We know family and friends are an important part of your treatment program and recovery. They will be encouraged to visit, call, and be active participants in your treatment. Your treatment team can provide you and your family with valuable education, resources, and support opportunities that will help you establish and maintain recovery. The staff on your unit will be able to provide you and your family with information about visitation including times, any age restrictions, and personal items that can be brought from home.
