Our nutritional team is dedicated to supporting you every step of the way on your weight loss journey:

Grocery Store Tour

Take your own personal bariatric grocery store tour from the privacy of your own home. An MUSC Health Dietitian narrates while you review your meal plan, food groups, serving sizes, products we love, health halos, and more.

Post-op Educational Video

Review this educational video during your early post-surgery days to help optimize your postop course. This video has specific information from 5 professionals in the bariatric surgery community (a surgeon, nurse, dietitian/nutritionist, psychologist, and pharmacist).

Recipe Corner

Check out our Recipe Corner for popular bariatric pureed recipes and bariatric-friendly meals and sides.

Nutrition Education Handouts

Our dietitians have a few favorite go-to handouts that we think you will enjoy as you work to plan your eating occasions post-surgery.

Nutrition Blog Posts

We are posting great content on the We. Love. Support. MUSC Health Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Program Blog - search bariatric, healthy eating, healthy recipes, nutrition, weight loss, wellness. We have some 'eat this, not that' columns, 'what we're eating', and 'Meet the Patient' stories.

In-Person Nutrition Counseling

If you need more time with your dietitian between clinic visits, make an appointment for one-on-one counseling with one of your Bariatric Surgery Program dietitians. She is available for individual appointments to help you fine-tune your diet.

During your session, you can:

  • Create personalized meal and exercise plans.
  • Increase your knowledge about healthful food choices.
  • Learn how to shop for and prepare healthful meals.
  • Receive realistic ways to lose or maintain your weight.
  • Discuss long-term expectations in regards to surgery and nutrition.

Our RDs may also meet with you prior to surgery to help meet your insurance requirements.

Call Amanda Peterson at 843-876-4867 to schedule an appointment.

Telenutrition Counseling

If you live outside of the Charleston County area, telenutrition might be an option for you. One of our Bariatric Surgery Program dietitians may be able to meet with you via telemedicine technology with a referral from your primary care office.

To find a location near you, visit the MUSC Center for Telehealth.
