MUSC Executive Health allows busy people to complete a comprehensive health assessment to address their health risks and medical needs.

The Executive Health Program at MUSC Health recognizes that and delivers busy people an efficient and thorough examination, focusing on early detection, lifestyle enhancement, and disease prevention, using the latest scientific advances and state-of-the-art diagnostic testing.

Our goal is to help you understand your existing health status; identify, reduce and eliminate health risks; and promote overall health and well-being. The premier comprehensive wellness and prevention examination performed by John Burk, M.D., and a team of MUSC Health experts is designed to identify health risks early, before they result in serious illness.

Comprehensive Medical Examination

  • Review of medical history
  • Electrocardiography (EKG)
  • Audiometry (hearing) test
  • Pap test (for women only)
  • Athletic trainer consult and movement screening

Preventive Screenings

  • Chest X-Ray to screen for spots on lungs or other irregularities
  • Spirometry to detect respiratory health and lung function
  • Exercise Stress Test to evaluate heart health

Comprehensive Lab Assessment

  • Urinalysis to detect kidney disease and infection
  • CBC with Differential to detect anemia, blood diseases, and infection
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Profile and a complete chemistry panel to detect kidney disease, diabetes, and liver disease
  • Lipid Panel to profile blood cholesterol levels
  • Thyroid Stimulating Hormone to detect an under or over-active thyroid
  • C-Reactive Protein (high-sensitivity) to detect an inflammatory marker that may show risk for coronary artery disease
  • Hepatitis C screening (if born between 1945 and 1965)
  • Prostate Specific Antigen to detect prostate cancer or prostate enlargement for males over 40 (PSA - for men only)

MUSC Executive Health Physician Alexander Chessman, M.D.

Alexander ChessmanDr. Alexander Chessman is a primary care physician board-certified in Family Medicine. He enjoys helping patients strive for wellness and prevent illness. Sometimes, problems happen, and catching these problems early is essential.

Managing chronic illnesses can be complicated and confusing; Dr. Chessman will try to give you choices that make sense and that fit your needs and wishes. Dr. Chessman performs annual physicals, wellness visits, sports physicals, executive health exams, acute care visits, chronic care management, and minor in-office procedures.

Originally from a college town in the middle of Ohio, Dr. Chessman spent about 10 years in and around Boston before returning to Ohio for medical school, graduating from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He moved to Charleston to complete his training in family medicine at MUSC in 1985 and has remained there ever since.
